Whether you're aiming for a strong Junior Cycle or Leaving Cert result, steadying a non-exam year, or seeking assistance with college French, all weekly grinds are customised and focus on where you are in your learning and where you need to be. Sessions run for one hour, weekly, one-to-one or in a small group, online via Microsoft Teams or in-person.
The French oral exam accounts for 25% of the total Higher Level Leaving Cert exam result. The focus in the weekly grinds is on both sections of the exam: the general conversation and the document, building confidence in pronunciation, grammatical accuracy and excellent content delivery. Having spent 10 years working as a French mock oral examiner in Dublin schools, I equip students with the right tools and strategies to develop their oral skills. Mock orals are also carried out in the weekly grinds under exam conditions on request.
Reading comprehension
Everything from question words, approach and exam tips to manipulation and grammar identification questions, is covered in conjunction with frequent practice of past reading comprehensions.
Listening comprehension
Revision of essential and higher level vocabulary (and their pronunciation) typically used in the listening comprehensions is done as well as frequent practice of past aural comprehensions with emphasis on the recognition of key vocabulary and grammar.
Grammar, vocabulary & written expression
All essential grammar items ranging from tenses, pronouns and prepositions to adjectives and adverbs, are covered using my French book Lisez, Traduisez, Réussissez! The book is also used to test and improve students' basic and higher vocabulary skills on a weekly basis. Approach, strategies and tips, structure and useful expressions are all provided to enable students to perform at their best in delivering top quality personal diaries, opinion pieces or narratives.

“Over the last six months, I have really enjoyed my one-to-one French grinds with Genevieve. Her classes were always engaging, enjoyable and well structured, making learning French much more interesting and less stressful. She helped me improve my confidence in speaking, writing and understanding French, and she always explained concepts clearly and patiently. The lessons were tailored to my needs, helping me strengthen my grammar, expand my vocabulary and prepare for the Leaving Certificate. Thanks to Genevieve's support and encouragement, I feel much more confident in my French.”

“The notes which I was given at the beginning of the year were very useful to refer to whenever I was answering exam questions. The classes were interactive and helped improve my exam technique with how to target marks efficiently and correctly.”

“I found the classes very useful. The best part was the help preparing for the oral exams as you gave me personalised notes with phonetics to help pronounce words correctly. Also, the feedback on things to improve on from the several mock orals we did was invaluable. Overall, I would definitely recommend the classes to anyone looking for a H1 in French. I got a H4 in my fifth-year summer exam but after a year of working with Genevieve, I have a strong chance of getting a H1 in the Leaving cert.”
