About Me

I’m Genevieve, an applied linguist, coach and qualified French and German teacher with over 20 years of experience. I give weekly 3rd, 5th and 6th year French and German tutorials online and in-person. All lessons are tailored to the students' learning needs.

My goal has always been to facilitate learning of all aspects of the language required for the Leaving Cert and Junior Cycle exams in an encouraging and supportive atmosphere in which students feel comfortable asking questions and challenging themselves. I aim to show students a variety of ways of simplifying learning of tricky French and German structures and to equip students with the necessary skills to perform at their best.

I am also published author of Complete German Grammar and self-published author of French Grammar and Vocabulary book, Lisez, Traduisez, Réussissez! I have always had a passion for foreign languages and enjoy teaching and tutoring highly motivated students in French and German, employing effective teaching and coaching strategies to empower students to achieve their desired results. My writing also includes several online language products aimed at secondary level French and German students. Other experience includes 10 years working as a French and German Mock oral examiner in schools in Dublin.

About the Tutorials

One-hour sessions, online or in-person, tailored to each student.

All weekly tutorials are tailored to the students' individual learning needs and carried out in a relaxed and fun atmosphere of encouragement and support, fostering confidence in students. The tutorials are typically of one hour duration.

The focus is on key areas of the Leaving Certificate and Junior Cycle exams: oral language, reading comprehension, grammar, listening comprehension and written production in which students need help preparing for the exams. Major emphasis is placed on the oral exams (including pronunciation) with the provision of ready-made templates to be worked through and filled in by students in each lesson. Time is also spent assisting them with pronunciation. Students are introduced to marking schemes and shown how they can maximize their marks by including or excluding certain information and simply by knowing how they need to answer exam questions.

Key language areas in which students may be experiencing difficulty are taught or revised in the weekly grinds using my French and German grammar and vocabulary books and notes, offering mnemonic devices, etc. to help easily remember vital language material. Frequent practice of past exam questions with students, homework, and regular oral testing of material, e.g., French or German verbs, tenses, and vocabulary is also done.

The overall aim is to boost students' confidence in each language by ensuring that they are well equipped with the necessary reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills to reach their full potential in their chosen language. Expert, quality notes, including a built-up range of profitable pointers, exam tips and strategies, are printed and provided to each student to help them achieve their desired French and German Leaving Cert or Junior Cycle results.

If required, I also offer to coach students and create action plans with them in relation to their study of important and relevant material required for each language exam.

One-hour tutorials are available to students online via Microsoft Teams or in-person. Tuition is also available to non-exam year students and those studying French or German outside of school in instances where the student may have changed schools, and the language they wish to continue to study for the Junior Cycle or Leaving Cert exam is not taught in the new school.
